About Mango Thokku Recipe

Mango Thokku is a quick South Indian condiment made using the season's bounty of mangoes. Green, unripe mangoes are tempered with a few spices to make this tangy relish.

Mango Thokku

Ingredients to make Mango Thokku

  • 2 green, unripe mangoes, peeled and grated
  • 2-3 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 teaspoons fenugreek (methi) seeds
  • 1 teaspoon hing (asafeotida)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1-2 teaspoons red chilly powder
  • salt to taste

How to make Mango Thokku

  1. In a wok/pan, heat the oil.
  2. Add the mustard seeds and once they splutter add the Methi seeds.
  3. Saute for a second and add the hing, turmeric and red chilli powder
  4. Immediately add the grated mangoes, sprinkle salt and mix.
  5. Cook till the mangoes are just cooked (or mangoes just turn soft about 5-6 minutes)
  6. Cool and store in an airtight, glass jar. Refrigerate it storing for a longer time
