ABOUT Dadpe Pohe RECIPE

A very different recipe from regular poha preparation where poha is mixed with coconut and chilies with practically no cooking involved.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 3 cups thin Poha
  2. 1 Large Onion finely chopped
  3. 4-5 green chilies chopped (less if they are too spicy)
  4. Big handful of freshly grated coconut
  5. 1-2 tsp Sugar
  6. Juice of 1 lime
  7. 2 tbsp Milk
  8. Water
  9. Handful of chopped coriander leaves
  10. Salt to taste
  11. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  12. few curry leaves
  13. Dash of Hing (asafoetida)

Instructions

  1. Sift the Poha till most of the dusty powder has separated.
  2. Sprinkle the poha with milk and some water just enough to wet it (not soaking wet).
  3. Combine onion, green chilies, coconut, lime juice, sugar, and salt together.
  4. Take a large vessel or deep plate. Lay half the poha on the bottom of the plate.
  5. Arrange the onion-coconut mixture over the poha. Repeat the poha-onion layer again.
  6. Press it down with a heavy weight over it.
  7. Prepare the tempering. Heat oil in small pan. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and hing.
  8. Pour this tempering over the top layer. Place a plate big enough to cover the layer and press it down with heavy weight.
  9. Leave the weight for at least 15-20 minutes till the poha softens.
  10. Before serving, fluff up the layers so everything is mixed well.
