Mani Kozhukattai

Ingredients to make Mani Kozhukattai

  • Rice flour 2 cups
  • salt as per taste
  • water as required
  • oil as needed
  • mustard seeds a few
  • curry leaves a few
  • chilli powder 1 - 2 tsp
  • turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Splitted urad dal 1 tsp
  • Channa dal 1 tsp
  • asafoetida a pinch

How to make Mani Kozhukattai

  1. Take 3 cups of water in a pan, add 1 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of oil. Allow it to boil for 5 minutes.
  2. Take a rice flour in a bowl, add boiled water to the flour immediately and mix the flour with a spatula. Allow it to cool and make a soft dough.
  3. Make small balls from the soft dough, steam these balls in an idli maker or a cooker for 10 minutes.
  4. Take out from the steamer and allow it to cool.
  5. Heat a pan, add 2 tsp of oil, mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, curry leaves then add rice balls and saute for 1 minute. Add chilli powder, turmeric and salt.
  6. Add a pinch of asafoetida. Serve hot.

My Tip:

Add carrots and if you like sour taste, add 1 tsp of lemon juice.
