Ingredients to make Gingernuts

  • 1 1/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 90 gms butter
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger (powdered dried ginger, saunth)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground clove
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda

How to make Gingernuts

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease the baking tray.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking soda and spices.
  3. Combine butter, sugar and honey in a thick bottom saucepan; stir over low heat until smooth.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in dry ingredients. Cool for 10 minutes.
  5. Roll level tablespoons of mixture into balls, place 3 cm apart on the baking tray and flatten them slightly. Bake for 10 minutes.
  6. Cool and store in an airtight container.
My Tip: Adjust quantity of spices according to your preference. If you do not have brown sugar, you may use white sugar, however, brown sugar gives a better flavour.
