Dahi Chicken

Ingredients to make Dahi Chicken

  • chicken Medium Curry Cut - 1 kilogram
  • onion Paste - 150 grams
  • Dhai/ yogurt - 300 grams
  • chilli Powder - 2 teaspoon
  • haldi Powder - 1 teaspoon
  • jeera/Cumin Powder - 1 & 1/2 teaspoon
  • Dhaniya/coriander Powder - 2 teaspoon
  • ginger Garlic Paste 50 gms
  • mustard Oil - 2 Tablespoon
  • salt to Taste
  • For Home Made Garam masala Powder
  • Badi Elaichi/ Black cardamom - 1
  • Kali Mirch/ Black peppercorns - 8 to 9
  • Laung/ cloves - 4 to 5
  • Choti Elaichi/ Green cardamom - 2
  • Dal Chini/ cinnamon Stick - 2 medium
  • Whole jeera/Cumin seed - 1 teaspooon
  • Chakra Phool/ star anise - 1/2 Pod
  • javitri/Mace - 2 small piece

How to make Dahi Chicken

  1. Take all Whole Garam Masala and grind to make a powder
  2. For Marination:
  3. Take Chicken in a bowl
  4. Add Yogurt/ Curd
  5. Add 1/2 Teaspoon Chilli Powder
  6. Add 1/2 Teaspoon Jeera Powder
  7. Add 1/2 Teaspoon Haldi Powder
  8. Add 1/2 Teaspoon Dhaniya Powder
  9. Add 1/2 of the Onion Paste
  10. Add 1/2 of the Ginger Garlic Paste
  11. Add 1/4 of the Home Made Garam Masala powder
  12. Mix and keep in refrigerator for 30 minutes for marination.
  13. Heat mustard oil in a kadai
  14. Add Rest of the Chilli, Haldi, Jeera, Dhaniya Powder
  15. Add Rest of the Onion Paste
  16. Add Rest of the Ginger Garlic Paste
  17. Add 1/2 of the Home Made Garam Masala
  18. Mix Well on slow heat or flame till masala cooks completely and leaves oil.
  19. Add marinated chicken and mix well. Sauté.
  20. Cook on medium flame For 20 - 30 Minutes. Keep mixing in between.
  21. Check chicken to see if it is done.
  22. Reduce the Gravy if you wish to make the gravy thick.
  23. Before taking it off the flame add rest of the Garam Masala Powder and mix slightly.
  24. Add a mint leave or coriander leave for garnish and serve with Roti or Rice

My Tip:

After taking off the flame leave the chicken to rest for 5 minutes before serving it, this helps the gravy to coat the chicken better.
