Bobbatlu

Ingredients to make Bobbatlu

  • maida-500 gms
  • Channa dal-250 gms
  • jaggery- 250 gms
  • Elachi- 3 ( powdered with a spoon of sugar)
  • salt- a pinch
  • oil-1tbsp
  • ghee-100 gms

How to make Bobbatlu

  1. In a bowl, mix maida, a pinch of salt, oil, little water and make it like a soft and sticky dough and let it rest for 1 hour.
  2. Wash and soak channa dal for 1 hour and cook for 3 whistles.
  3. Remove from heat and grind it to a smooth paste.
  4. In a non stick pan , add powdered jaggery and little water along with elachi powder and stir well for 5 minutes.
  5. Now add Channa dal paste to it and cook till it becomes thick paste.
  6. Let it cool for 15 minutes and make small balls ( apply little ghee to your palms)
  7. Now take maida dough and take a small portions of dough and roll it our like a chapatti.
  8. Now place the channa ball in the middle of chapatti and seal it from all sides with the dough.
  9. Remove the extra dough on the top of ball after sealing completely.
  10. Now apply little ghee to your palms and press it gently to form a round shape bobbatlu. We can even use a puri press to get round and even shape
  11. Now heat a tawa and fry bobbatlu on both sides with ghee.
  12. Our yummy bobbatlu are ready to serve.

My Tip:

Please use equal measure of Channa dal and water in pressure cooker to get good bobbatlu. If we are unable to roll out chapatti from dough, press it in between ghee apolied plastic sheets or butter papers. In olden days these yummy and delicious food was restricted to be made only during festivals or special occasions ( the secreat behind this is to cut off extra fat and high calories). But now a days, it is almost eaten very frequently. So, my suggestion is to make these yummy bobbatlu occasionally ( because we can't stop eating with 1 bobbatlu)
