Ingredients to make Gujrati Puran Poli Or Vedmi (Microwave Puran)

  • Tuvardaal- 1 cup
  • wheat flour- 2 cups
  • sugar-1 cup
  • elaichi- 6(powdered)
  • jaiphal- 1 pinch
  • kesar- 8 to 10 strands
  • ghee-1 tbsp abd more for applying on the puranpuri

How to make Gujrati Puran Poli Or Vedmi (Microwave Puran)

  1. Wash the daal properly and pressure cook it with just enough water for the daal to submerge. Cook for 4 to 5 whistles.
  2. In the meanwhile knead the dough with a spoon of oil and water like chapati dough.
  3. Now take the cooked daal in a glass bowl which is microwave safe.Add sugar and microwave for 5 minutes.
  4. As the sugar melts, consistency of this puran will become thin. Add saffron moistened in a spoon of milk to this puran. Also add a spoon of ghee.
  5. Now stir and again microwave for 3 minutes.Stir again.You have to keep checking the consistency at every 2 minutes now.The test to check whether puran is ready is that a spoon should stand erect in it.
  6. Add the cardamon and nutmeg powder and mix properly.The consistency thickens on cooling.
  7. Now to prepare the puranpoli,take a ball of dough.Roll into a small puri sized circle and keep a ball of puran on it.
  8. Now fold from all sides and form a ball again.
  9. Now roll lightly again and make roti sized circle.
  10. Put this on a hot tawa.when lower side gets some brown spots,turn it and when second side is cooked properly again put the first side facing the tawa and press lightly with a spatula to get nice brown spots evenly.The puranpoli puffs up at this stage
  11. Now take and keep on a plate.Apply ghee liberally and serve hot with gujrati kadhi or any vegetable of your choice.
