About Firni

Firni or phirni is a delicious lip smacking Indian dessert. It was believed to have originated in Persia and travelled to India through Mughals. Ingredients to make Firni

  • Milk- 4 cups
  • Basmati rice- 4 tbsp ( soaked for 1 hour)
  • Sugar- 1 cup
  • Green elachi- 4 ( powdered)
  • Rose essence- 1 tsp
  • Almons, cashews, pistachios- sliced
  • Condensed milk - 2 tbsp

How to make Firni

  1. Soak basmati rice in water for 1 hour and grind it to a smooth paste
  2. Boil 4 cups of milk and when boiled, add rice paste and stir well for 10 min.
  3. Now add condensed milk, sugar, elachi powder and stir well till a thick consistency is ready as shown in photo.
  4. Remove from flame and add rose essense and chill in in refrigerator.
  5. Garnish with dryfruit silvers and serve chilled.
My Tip: If we don't have time to stir for 30 minutes and to soak rice, then we can use home made rice powder, milkmaid to make quick firni. If using 1 tin of milkmaid, we need not add sugar.
