Ingredients to make Souvlaki

  • 1 kg chicken breast (boneless) cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 3-4 pita bread
  • 1 cucumber chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper chopped
  • 4 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 tbsp vinegar
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp oregano leaves chopped
  • 2-3 cloves of grated garlic
  • 1 tbsp black pepper powder
  • 1tbsp salt

How to make Souvlaki

  1. In a bowl, whisk lemon juice, vinegar, olive oil, oregano, salt, black pepper. Mix in grated garlic.
  2. Toss the chicken pieces in the bowl and coat it evenly. Keep the chicken pieces in refrigerator for about 2-3 hours to marinate.
  3. Insert the chicken pieces into a wooden/metal stick.
  4. Place the sticks with chicken pieces on a grill or barbeque and roast the pieces until they are brown,cooked and smoky.
  5. On serving plate, place pita bread, spread cucumber, bell pepper on it. Top it with roasted chicken pieces. Drizzle with remaining marinate juice.
  6. Serve with tzatziki, or any other dip.
