About Masala Vada / Dal ke Vade Recipe

Crisp from the outside and soft from the inside. A cup of Chai and masala vadas can drift you to relaxing mood.

Masala Vada / Dal ke Vade

Ingredients to make Masala Vada / Dal ke Vade

  • chana dal - 1.5 cups
  • onion - 1
  • green chilly - 1
  • red chilly - 1
  • cinnamon - 1/2 inch stick
  • ginger - small piece
  • Dill leaves - 1 handful
  • besan - 5 tsp
  • salt - according to taste

How to make Masala Vada / Dal ke Vade

  1. Soak chana dal for 3 hours. Strain the water completely and set aside.
  2. Divide the dal to small batches, add cinnamon stick, red chilly and ginger piece and blend coarse using a food processor.
  3. Transfer to a container and add finely chopped onion cubes, green chilly pieces, salt and dill leaves. Add besan accordingly, mix well.
  4. While adding besan keep checking for the binding in batter. Add only required amount little by little, just enough for the vadas to hold shape.
  5. Take sufficient oil for frying. Heat the oil fully then reduce it to medium to low flame. Check oil temperature by adding a small portion and adjust temperature accordingly.
  6. Take lemon size dough and flatten them gently between palms. Drop them in oil and do not turn sides immediately. Fry till golden brown.
