Dahi vada

Ingredients to make Dahi vada

  • 1 cup urad dal
  • Curd 250 gms
  • Chat masala 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Black salt for taste
  • Sweet tamarind chutney
  • Salt for taste
  • Sugar 1/2 tsp
  • Fresh coriander 2 tsp
  • Chopped green chilies 2 nos
  • Chopped ginger 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves a sprig
  • Mustard seed 1 tsp
  • Dry whole red chilli 1
  • Refined oil for deep frying

How to make Dahi vada

  1. Soak 1 cup of urad dal overnight and grind into a fine paste.
  2. Keep the paste for 30 mins
  3. Mix chopped ginger and green chillies with the paste.
  4. Beat the paste nice till light and fluffy with hands.
  5. Add salt
  6. Now make small vadas and deep fry them.
  7. Take out the vadas from oil and put them in water.
  8. Leave the vadas in the water for few hours.
  9. Now take out the vadas from water squeezing out excess water.
  10. Beat the curd with some water to a smooth consistency.
  11. For tempering heat oil add dry chillies, mustard seeds, chopped green chillies and curry leaves.
  12. As it splutters pour it over the curd and give a nice mix.
  13. Add salt and sugar to taste.
  14. Chill the curd inside the fridge
  15. Just before serving put the vadas inside the curd
  16. Put some sweet tamarind chutney, chilli powder, black salt, roasted cumin powder and chat masala
  17. Garnish with chopped fresh coriander.
