Ingredients to make Kadlemaddi/Hayagreeva

  • 2 cups chana dal
  • 1 cup jaggery(or to taste)
  • 3/4 cup Fresh coconut grated
  • 1 tsp cardamom powder
  • 2 tsp ghee
  • 2 tbsp cashews chopped

How to make Kadlemaddi/Hayagreeva

  1. Waah and soak the chana dal in enough water for an hour.
  2. Pressure the soaked dal until soft but not mushy.Drain off the excess water remaining from the cooked dal.
  3. In a small pan add ghee and fry the chopped cashews until golden and set aside.
  4. In a microwave safe bowl add the cooked dal, jaggery and grated coconut.
  5. Microwave on high for five minutes stirring occasionally.
  6. Add the cardamom powder, fried cashews and stir the mixture. Microwave again on high for another five minutes stirring occasionally.
  7. By now the moisture will get evaporated and gets dry to touch.
  8. Scoop into a bowl and garnish with chopped nuts of choice and serve.
  9. Soothing and tasty Kadlemaddi is ready to enjoy

My Tip:

Desiccated coconut can be substituted with the fresh one. Instead of the microwave, you can cook it on the stove top on low heat.
