Vermecilli upma/ namkeen sevai

Ingredients to make Vermecilli upma/ namkeen sevai

  • Vermecilli 1/2 cup
  • curry leaves
  • Chana dal 1tsp
  • Rai 1tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 1tsp
  • Onion finely chopped 1 medium size
  • Tomato finely chopped 1medium size
  • Green chillies 4-5
  • Ground nuts 1tbsp

How to make Vermecilli upma/ namkeen sevai

  1. Fry the ground nuts in oil in a pan.
  2. Now fry the vermecelli untill they become golden in color.
  3. Remove from the pan and keep seperately.
  4. In a deep kadhai, add the oil and put into it Rai and chana dal.
  5. Allow them to splutter and then add green chillies,& curry leaves. After this add the onions .
  6. Once the onions become golden, add d tomatoes with some salt(according to taste).
  7. Allow the tomatoes to become a bit mushy.
  8. Now add the fried vermecelli and mix well.
  9. Now add water, sufficiently that the vermecelli is completely soaked.
  10. Cover the kadahi with a lid and allow it to cook on a low flame.
  11. Keep checking if the water has completely vanished, or the vermecelli are cooked.
  12. The vermecelli swell in size and grow bigger and softer when cooked.
  13. Switch off the flame and serve the cooked vermecelli upma garnished with ground nuts.
My Tip: When cooking the vermecelli, keep checking it and if at some stage the amount of water is less, add some and let it cook
