About Shufta

This is a traditional Kashmiri recipe. I got inspired from my Aunt-in-law when I first heard about this on the TV show 'Lost recipes'. This recipe takes us centuries back into the Kashmiri culture.

Shufta is a mouthwatering dish which is perfect to serve at any occasion. It is a recipe of Jammu and Kashmir cuisine which is very famous in the whole worldwide. This is very amazing in taste and it contains a lot of health benefiting nutrients. It is a quick and easy recipe and you can easily prepare restaurant style Shufta at your home. Ingredients to make Shufta

  • 1 cup Ghee
  • 1 cup blanched Almonds
  • 1 1/2 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 cup Raisins
  • 1 cup chopped coconut
  • 2 teaspoon elachi powder
  • 1 teaspoon Kesar
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Water

How to make Shufta

  1. Cut the cottage cheese into 1 inch cubes. Heat ghee in a pan and deep fry these cubes.
  2. Deep fry the blanched almonds.
  3. Turn the heat low and add the chopped dates, raisins and coconut.
  4. Heat water in a pan and add sugar and boil once. Add elaichi powder into it.
  5. Add kesar in warm water and let it rest for 5 minutes. Meanwhile cover the pan and let it cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Add cottage cheese cubes and Kesar water.
  7. Stir and serve hot.
