Nimona - green pea curry

Ingredients to make Nimona - green pea curry

  • 250 gms + 100 gms green peas
  • 2 bulbs of garlic peeled
  • 4-5 green chilies
  • 1-1&1/2 inch ginger
  • 2 medium potatoes diced in 2 inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 3 dried red chilies
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Pinch of asofoetida
  • 3/4 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 medium bowl coriander leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 6-7 tbsp oil

How to make Nimona - green pea curry

  1. Coarsely grind 250 gms of green peas without adding water.
  2. Make a dry paste of green chili, garlic and ginger.
  3. Start to heat up a kadai..add oil to it...to the heated oil add asofoetida, red chili and bay leaf...
  4. Add the onion and cook till it starts to turns golden brown...add the green chili paste and cook for a minute an a low heat..
  5. Now add the whole green peas i.e. the additional 100 gms..also add the potatoes...cook for 3-4 mins or till the potato pieces are cooked...
  6. Now add the coarsely grinded green peas...and now cook till the grains of the green peas separate...cook on a low heat and keep stirring in between.
  7. Now add the dry spices and cook for around 30 secs....make the paste of coriander leaves and add it to the kadai...mix it well and again cook for around 15-20 secs...
  8. Add water as per desired consistency....
  9. Now cover and cook on a low heat till the the oil starts to float on the top...
  10. Add salt to taste....serve this delicious nimona...with roti or steamed rice...while serving top it up with 1 tbsp desi ghee to enhance its taste....

My Tip:

Preferably use fresh green peas which r tender....if not available you can use frozen green peas to enjoy this delicacy.
