A classic mutton curry which goes perfectly with boiled rice.

Mutton curry

Ingredients to make Mutton curry

  • 1/2 kg mutton with bones
  • 4 medium size onions
  • 4 medium size tomatoes
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger paste
  • 1 tsp fresh garlic paste
  • 1 tsp dried coriander seeds powder
  • 1/2 tsp powdered turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp jeera ( cumin seeds )
  • 1 tejpatta ( bay leaf )
  • 1/2 piece dalchini ( cinnamon )
  • 2 laung ( cloves )
  • 2 elaichi ( green cardamom)

How to make Mutton curry

  1. Make a paste of onions and tomatoes in a mixer grinder. Add a little water to get paste
  2. Heat oil in Kadai ( deep bottom pan )
  3. Add the onion tomato paste.
  4. Cook till the paste is light brown and has left the oil in the pa
  5. Add mutton and cook for 20 minutes
  6. Put the mixture in pressure cooker by adding 2 glasses of water
  7. Wait for 5 whistles
  8. Remove when the pressure is down.
  9. Add fresh cilantro leaves on top and serve

My Tip:

The trick is to cook the mutton in the oil for a minimum of 20 minutes- 10 mins longer is even better. Adjust the curry to taste - if its too watery dry it by not covering the pan.

what about the spices and ginger garlic paste..the recipe does not mention when to add it
