These cute little buns looks wonderful and taste delicious. The carrots added a fruity flavour and refreshing bring orange colour to this buns.

Chewy Mandarin Orange Mantou (steam bun)

Ingredients to make Chewy Mandarin Orange Mantou (steam bun)

  • 125 gm all purpose flour
  • 5 gm corn flour
  • 2 gm instant dry yeast
  • 20 gm carrot, peeled and diced
  • 20 gm sugar
  • 5 ml oil
  • 20 ml water
  • 1/4 tsp salt

How to make Chewy Mandarin Orange Mantou (steam bun)

  1. 100 GM CARROT.5 GM CORN FLOUR.20 GM SUGAR.2 GM INSTANT YEAST.20 ML WATER.5 ML OIL.125 GM MAIDA. 1/4 tsp salt
  2. STEAM THE PEELED AND DICED CARROTS FOR 4-5 MINUTES.
  3. GRIND THE STEAMED CARROTS.
  4. ADD WATER AND PUREE THE CARROTS INTO A FINE PASTE.
  5. IN A BIG BOWL, ADD 110 GM CARROT PUREE,
  6. 125 GM MAIDA AND 5 GM CORN FLOUR (BASICALLY 130 GM CAKE FLOUR)
  7. 2 GM YEAST, 20 GM SUGAR, 1 tsp salt AND 5 ML OIL.
  8. COMBINE ALL THE INGREDIENTS AND FORM A DOUGH.
  9. KNEAD THE DOUGH GENTLY FOR 10-12 MINUTES.
  10. IT WILL BE NO LONGER STICKY AFTER KNEADING NICELY.
  11. KEEP THE SMOOTH DOUGH TO PROOF INSIDE A CLOSED CONTAINER UNTIL DOUBLE IN VOLUME.
  12. (* I KEPT IT INSIDE MY PAN WHICH I USED EARLIER FOR STEAMING, AS IT WAS BIT WARM)
  13. TAKE OUT THE PROOFED DOUGH.
  14. DIVIDE IT INTO 3 EQUAL SIZE BALLS.
  15. DUST THE BALLS GENEROUSLY WITH FLOUR.
  16. PLACE IT ONTO A CLEAN TOWEL AND SQUEEZE IT GENTLY.
  17. IT WILL FORM NICE MARKINGS OVER THE BALL.
  18. SHAPE THE BALL SLIGHTLY AND PLACE IT OVER THE PARCHMENT PAPER, SEAM SIDE FACING DOWNWARDS.
  19. MAKE A SHALLOW DEPRESSION IN THE CENTRE AND MARK SOME LINES USING A KNIFE.
  20. ALLOW SHAPED BALLS TO REST FOR 20-30 MINUTES.
  21. STEAM BUNS OVER HIGH HEAT FOR 8-10 MINUTES.
  22. TURN OFF THE FLAME AND TILT THE LID LITTLE BIT FOR COLD AIR CIRCULATION, WAIT FOR 4-5 MINUTES.
  23. DECORATE THE BUNS WITH SOME GREEN TWIGS.
