Ingredients to make Surakka Mor Koottu (Yoghurt and bottle gourd curry)

  • Bottle gourd (ghia), medium-sized, 1 peeled, chopped into small pieces
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut (nariyal), grated 5 tbsp /20 gm
  • green chillies 3
  • Cumin (jeera) seeds 1 tsp/2 gm
  • Yoghurt (dahi) 1cup /200 gm
  • Rice powder 1 tsp
  • Refined oil ½ tsp
  • Mustard seeds (rai) ¼ tsp
  • Split black gram (urad dal) ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves (kari patta), pinched 4-5

How to make Surakka Mor Koottu (Yoghurt and bottle gourd curry)

  1. Boil the bottle gourd in a little water and salt.
  2. Grind the coconut, green chillies, and cumin seeds into a wet paste.
  3. Mix the paste with the yoghurt. Add rice powder; mix well.
  4. Add the above to the boiled bottle gourd and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Heat the oil in a small pan; add mustard seeds, split black gram, and curry leaves. When the seeds start spluttering, pour it onto the cooked mixture.
My Tip: This mor koottu can also be made with cabbage.
