A coconut rice dish that comprises of textures and flavours.

Tengai Saadam (Coconut Rice)

Ingredients to make Tengai Saadam (Coconut Rice)

  • rice 1 cup / 200 gm
  • coconut (nariyal), scraped ½ cup
  • Refined oil 2 tsp/ 10 ml
  • mustard seeds (rai) ½ tsp/ 1 ½ gm
  • Dry red chillies (sookhi lal mirch) 2
  • asafoetida (hing) a pinch
  • Split black gram (urad dal) 2 tsp
  • salt to taste

How to make Tengai Saadam (Coconut Rice)

  1. Cook the rice and keep aside to cool.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan; add mustard seeds, dry red chilies, asafoetida, and split black gram. When the seeds start spluttering, add the coconut and saute till golden brown. Add the salt and then mix with the rice.
  3. Taste to adjust the salt.
  4. Serve with Pachadi for best taste.
