Ingredients to make Fish pickle

  • For marinating: 250-300gms king fish cut into small cubes
  • 1tbs kashmiri chilli powder
  • 1/2tsp turmeric powder
  • 1tsp pepper powder
  • 1/2tsp garlic powder or fine garlic paste
  • 2tbs cornflour
  • 1tsp salt
  • For dry roasting: 1tsp black mustard seeds
  • 1tsp cumin seeds
  • 1tsp aniseseeds
  • 1/4tsp fenugreek seeds
  • For the masala: 1tsp black mustard seeds
  • 1/4tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 2-3 springs of curry leaves
  • 1 bulb of garlic sliced
  • 2tbs fine juliennes of ginger
  • 2tbs kashmiri chilli powder
  • 1tsp pepper powder
  • 1/2tsp turmeric powder
  • 1tsp sugar
  • salt
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 cup gingely oil/refined oil

How to make Fish pickle

  1. Marinate the fish pieces with the masla mentioned under "for marinating" for 20-25mins.
  2. Deep fry the marinated fishes and keep aside
  3. Dry roast the spices mentioned under "dry roast" and corasely powder them in a pestle and mortar.
  4. Heat oil in a kadai, splutter mustard seeds, add curry leaves, add fenugreek and fry.
  5. Add ginger and garlic and fry until colour changes to brown but not burnt.
  6. Add salt, chilli pwd, turmeric pwd and pepper pwd and saute and fry untill fragrant.
  7. Add vinegar and bring it to a rolling boil, add suagr and turn off the heat.
  8. Now add the fish pieces, mix well, add the dry roast powder, mix well, adjust salt and store the pickle in a mason jar and leave it to mature overnight.

My Tip:

You can store the pickle for upto 2-3 days outside and for a week if stored in refrigerator.
