About Koulourakia - Greek Festive Cookies Recipe

Koulourakia (Knotted Cookies) are a crispy, orange-scented Greek Cookies prepared during Christmas, Easter etc. Greeks consume it by dunking it in cup of Coffee. Enjoy the taste of Orange & Butter flavored cookies with cup of hot coffee

Koulourakia - Greek Festive Cookies

Ingredients to make Koulourakia - Greek Festive Cookies

  • 60 gms soft butter
  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup + 2tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp warm milk
  • 1/2 orange Zest
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 beaten for glazing
  • sesame seeds for topping

How to make Koulourakia - Greek Festive Cookies

  1. Sieve dry ingredients and keep it aside
  2. In a bowl , cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat until frothy
  3. Add milk , orange zest and vanilla extract. Blend well
  4. Add dry ingredients slowly and start mixing it. Now knead a soft non sticky dough. Cover dough in plastic wrap and chill for 45 minutes
  5. Preheat oven to 180 and line baking tray
  6. Now make small balls of dough. Roll dough in 7-8 inch rope. Fold rope in half and twist strands to form knot. Place cookies on baking tray
  7. Brush cookies with beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds on top
  8. Bake for 14-15 minutes until golden brown. Allow cookies to cool completely. Store in airtight container for 2 weeks. Serve with cup of coffee
