Ingredients to make Pachai payaru kadayal

  • Green gram - 100 gm
  • Onion/ shallots- 8
  • Green chillies - 4
  • Garlic cloves - 3
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • Coriander seeds or 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • Salt as per taste

How to make Pachai payaru kadayal

  1. Roast the green gram till the aroma develops. Then pressure cook it with garlic cloves till 4 to 5 whistles blow.
  2. Heat the kadai. Add the gingelly oil, followed by cumin seeds, shallots, green chillies, curry leaves, coriander powder. Saute it well.
  3. Now add the sauted mixture to the pressure cooked green gram. Then add salt as per taste.
  4. This is mashed with the back of a laddle. It is usually done in earthen pot called Kothu chatting with a kind of laddle comes with it.

My Tip:

When tomato is added it gives a different taste.
