Kozhi Kuzhambu(Chicken curry~Chettinad style)

Ingredients to make Kozhi Kuzhambu(Chicken curry~Chettinad style)

  • 700-800gms small chicken cleaned and cut in 8-10 pcs
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilly powder
  • 8-10 curry leaves
  • Salt acc to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 onions finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chillies finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 tablespoon coriander seeds
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Tomato puree of 2 tomatoes
  • 4 tablespoons grated coconut
  • 3-4 tablespoons oil
  • handful of coriander leaves washed

How to make Kozhi Kuzhambu(Chicken curry~Chettinad style)

  1. Wash the chicken pieces well under running water and transfer to a large bowl.
  2. Add ginger- garlic paste, salt, red chilly powder,1 tablespoon oil and turmeric powder into the same bowl.Marinate the chicken pieces for 2 hours or preferably overnight.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add curry leaves, coriander seeds and mustard seeds.Turn off flame and grind, after cooling a bit, return to pan..now add green chillies and chopped onions and saute until golden brown.
  4. Meanwhile make a fine paste of grated coconut and milk.Now in the same pan add tomato puree and cook till masala starts leaving sides of pan.
  5. Now add the coconut paste and stir continously to make a thick gravy, add the chicken pieces and lemon juice and mix well.
  6. Cover the lid and let the chicken cook till tender(15-20 mins), alternately give one whistle in pressure cooker.Garnish with some coriander n curry leaves and serve with rice.
