On the 1st of March 2021, the second phase of vaccination started which was meant for vaccinating all those above 60 years and later for ones between 45-60 years. Different countries all over the world have worked hard to produce vaccines for fighting Coronavirus. The three vaccines that are available in India to fight against COVID-19 are Covaxin, Covishield, and Sputnik V. While the two vaccines, Covaxin and Covishield, are native to India. Sputnik V on the other hand is from Russia which the Government of India recently approved. However, despite the three vaccines being different in some ways. Bharat Biotech is responsible for manufacturing this vaccine in partnership with the Indian Council of Medical Research. Although it is made with an inactive virus, it cannot infect your body. When talking about the efficacy of Covaxin, research shows that it is about 81% efficient after completing the second dose of the vaccine.

The Serum Institute of India, Pune is responsible for the manufacture of Covishield. And Oxford University in partnership with AstraZeneca is responsible for the production of Covishield.
Covishield is one of those Indian vaccines which has been approved by WHO or the World Health Organization. This Indian vaccine works on the basis of the viral vector platform. In other words, the making of Covishield requires the use of a weak version of the virus. The name of the weakened virus is adenovirus from chimpanzees. As the WHO has already approved this vaccine, its use is safe. Even the efficacy of the Covishield vaccine is about 70%-80% after the first dose of vaccination. The second dose of the Covishield vaccine, given after 12-16 weeks can increase the efficiency of the Covishield vaccine up to 90%.

In India, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories is the local manufacturer of Russia’s Sputnik V.
In India, very limited centers are stocked with the Sputnik V vaccine. The making of the Sputnik V vaccine is similar to Covishield. Just like Covishield, Sputnik V is based on the viral vector platform. Sputnik V also uses the adenovirus during its making. It is comparatively safe and slowly teaches your body to fight against the Coronavirus. The efficacy of Sputnik V is comparatively greater than both Covishield and Covaxin. It is no less than the best Coronavirus vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna. The efficiency rate of Sputnik V is as high as 91.6%. The gap between the two doses of Sputnik V is 21 days.
