Ingredients to make Chilka Bhaji (Pea pods vegetable)

  • 20 pieces of peas chilka(pea pods without the peas)
  • 1 medium potato peeled and cut
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 4 garlic pods choped
  • 1 mediom tomato chopped
  • 1green chili chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/8 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2tsp vegetables oil
  • 1/8 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp chat masala powder

How to make Chilka Bhaji (Pea pods vegetable)

  1. To peel peas- take out the peas from the pods and open it, break a little tip from the top and pull it down.you will see a thin peel coming off, try and bring it all the way down. Throw the thin peels and save the pods.
  2. Wash and dry the pea pods.
  3. Chop them roughly in 1" pieces
  4. In pan heat vegetable oil .
  5. Add the chopped onions.as they start charging colour add the chopped garlic and green chili.
  6. Cook for a minute.
  7. Add chopped tomatoes and cook for another minute.
  8. When oil starts separating from the masala, add turmeric powder and chilli power.
  9. Now add salt and chat masala.
  10. Add the potatoes to cook. Cover and cook for another 2 minutes.
  11. When the potatoes are half done add the chopped matar ke chilke.
  12. Cook for about 5 minutes.
  13. Serve with roti or rice.

My Tip:

You can make this vegetable of any other chilke like tarbooj, lauki...taste is very different
