Pepper Chicken

Ingredients to make Pepper Chicken

  • 500 gm chicken with bones
  • 3 medium sized onions, finely sliced
  • Spices (2 cloves, 1 green cardamom and 1/2 inch cinnamon)
  • ginger and Garlic paste 1 teaspoon
  • 1 large sized tomato, roughly chopped
  • 2 green chillies
  • A bunch of coriander leaves, washed and finely chopped
  • turmeric powder 1/4th teaspoon
  • red chilli powder as required
  • salt to taste
  • pepper powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • water as required

How to make Pepper Chicken

  1. Clean and wash the chicken, then keep it aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add in the whole spices, cloves, green cardamom, 1/2 inch cinnamon stick. Once they start to crackle, add the finely sliced onions and green chillies. Saute the onions on a low flame till they turn golden brown in colour while stirring at regular intervals.
  3. Now add the ginger and garlic paste, mix it well and cook till the raw smell fades away. Add the roughly chopped tomatoes and cook till it's done.
  4. Add the turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt. Mix it well and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Add the chicken, mix it well and make sure all the pieces are well coated with the masala. Cover and cook on a low flame till it's done while occasionally stirring in between.
  6. Next, add about 1/2 cup of water and cook for 3 more minutes. Then add the pepper powder, mix it well and cook for another minute.
  7. Finally garnish it with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve it with chapatis or naan.

My Tip:

Cook on low flame for best results.
