Dal Gosht

Ingredients to make Dal Gosht

  • Mutton 1 kg
  • Chopped bottle gourd 1/2 kg
  • 1 1/2 cup tur dal
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 4 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tez patta
  • Whole garam masala as per choice
  • cumin whole 1 tsp
  • 1 tbsp garlic crushed
  • turmeric 1/2 tsp
  • 2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • coriander powder 1 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • Few coriander leaves for garnishing
  • curry leaves a few
  • oil as required
  • salt to taste

How to make Dal Gosht

  1. Cook dal with turmeric in pressure cooker keep aside.
  2. Heat oil, add tez patta, ginger garlic paste, whole garam masala and saute well.
  3. Add in onions and saute till golden brown. Add in tomatoes and saute for some time.
  4. Add in mutton and mix till the oil separates. Add in all the powder masalas. Saute for some time then add the cooked dal in it. Add salt as per taste.
  5. Simmer till the mutton is 3/4 cooked, add in bottle gourd pieces and let it cook for few minutes.
  6. Take oil for bagaar, add in whole jeera, crushed garlic, whole green chillies and curry leaves. Add it to the dal gosht. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  7. Serve with rice or naan.

My Tip:

Cook in a big vessel. Cook the mutton well.
