Chana Masala

Ingredients to make Chana Masala

  • Overnight soaked chick peas 2 cups
  • onions chopped 1 cup
  • tomatoes chopped 1/2 cups
  • ginger chopped 1 tbsp
  • garlic chopped 1 tbsp
  • hing a pinch
  • turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • cumin powder 1 1/2 tbsp
  • coriander powder 2 bsp
  • pomegranate seeds powder 1 tsp
  • Dried methi leaves 2 tbsp
  • Chat masala 1 tsp
  • cinnamon stick 1 inch
  • Black cardamom 3
  • bay leaves 2-3
  • onion sliced 1 small
  • tomato sliced 1 small
  • green chillies cut in halves 4-5
  • Degi mirch 1 tsp
  • Garam masala 1 tsp
  • oil 3 tbsp
  • salt to taste
  • coriander leaves 1 tbsp

How to make Chana Masala

  1. Cook chana with salt in a pressure cooker till done, drain excess water and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil, add hing, black cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaves, degi mirch, turmeric, pomegranate seeds and chopped ginger, garlic.
  3. Add chopped onions, saute till translucent. Add chopped tomatoes and saute till the oil separates.
  4. Add sliced onions, tomatoes, green chillies, garam masala, methi leaves and chana.
  5. Adjust salt, add cumin powder, coriander powder, chat masala and coriander leaves. Mix and cook for 5-7 minutes.

My Tip:

While boiling chana add salt and turmeric.
