Ingredients to make Alu masala

  • potatoes big 4 nos
  • onion chopped 3nos
  • tomatoes chopped 1nos
  • mustard seeds 1/2tsp
  • cumin seeds 1/2tsp
  • urad dal 1pinch
  • chana dal 1pinch
  • moong dal 1pinch
  • green chillies 3nos
  • turmeric powder 1pinch
  • hing 1pinch
  • curry leaves 1 strand
  • coriander leaves chopped 1tbsp
  • salt to taste
  • water as required

How to make Alu masala

  1. First of all take a pressure cooker and cook potatoes in it for 4 to 5 whistles.
  2. Remove the skin of the potatoes and mash it well and keep aside.
  3. Now take a kadai and heat it and add oil to it .
  4. Now add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
  5. Now add all the dals,cumin seeds and hing and saute well.
  6. Next add curry leaves and let it splutter.
  7. Now add green chillies and onions and mix well till onion becomes nice brown in colour .
  8. Now add ginger garlic paste and saute well .
  9. Now add tomatoes and turmeric powder and mix well .
  10. Now add mashed potatoes and salt to it and mix well.
  11. Add water if required.
  12. Serve in bowl with hot pooris or dosa.

My Tip:

We can even add peas to it to give a different taste.
