  • Rice flour 2 tbspn
  • jaggery 1/2 cup
  • Riped banana 1
  • cardamom 1 tspn
  • baking soda 1 pinch
  • water 1/4 cup
  • salt a pinch
  • oil as required

How to make GODHUMAI APPAM/WHEAT FLOUR APPAM

  1. 1. Peel the banana and mash it well with the masher and transfer it to a mixing bowl along with wheat flour, rice flour and salt. Take the jaggery in a pan along with water and bring to boil.
  2. 2. Cook until the jaggery dissolves. Strain the jaggery and add to the mixing bowl. Mix the banana, flour, jaggery well without any lumps.
  3. 3. Add the cardamom and baking soda to the batter and mix well. Adjust the batter to pouring consistency b adding little water if needed. Heat the appam pan with little oil on each mold. Once its hot reduce the flame and pour the batter.
  4. 4. Then fry it on both sides by adding oil until golden . Then remove from pan. Repeat the process for entire batter.
  5. Now the hot godhumai appam is ready to serve.

My Tip:

1. If the appam batter is too watery u can add the extra wheat flour and adjust the consistency. If its too thick add water little by little and adjust. 2. You can also add tbspn of grated coconut along with batter. 3. You can also deep fry in oil instead of making in appam batter. 4. In appam pan instead of oil you can also make it with ghee. It enhance more flavors.
