Fish With Banana Flower Chutney

Ingredients to make Fish With Banana Flower Chutney

  • banana flower - 1
  • Magur Maach/Cat Fish - 1 large
  • green chilly - 10-15
  • tomatoes - 2 medium
  • ginger - 2 inches
  • garlic - 10-12 cloves
  • Bamboo shoots - 3 tbsp
  • salt to taste
  • water as required

How to make Fish With Banana Flower Chutney

  1. Take the banana flower and discard first few layers of the flowers as it won't be that fresh and also the young ones are better. Cut the tip of the flowers. Please refer the picture below.
  2. Wash the flowers and add it in a pan. Add in Salt, green chillies roughly pricked, tomotoes roughly chopped or cut into four, bamboo shoots and the whole fish.
  3. Pour water above the ingredients level and bring to boil.
  4. While it is cooking you can coarsely ground the ginger and garlic and add it to the pan and continue to cook.
  5. Let the water evaporate completely. Now take out the fish and keep it in a separate bowl and slowly remove the bones of the fish. Discard the bones.
  6. Now put the fish back to the pan and mash all the ingredients coarsely with a pestle.
  7. Check Salt and add if required. Mix well and serve.

My Tip:

This dish is usually and best made with magur maach, if you don't get it you can substitute it with some other fish.
