ABOUT Lauki Chana Dal Tadka RECIPE

It is a great fusion recipe of lentil and vegetable which has a good nutritional value. The Lauki goes very well with the chana dal and the tadka adds flavours to it.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 cup Chana Dal or split Bengal gram
  2. 1 cup Bottle gourd chopped into cubes
  3. 1 Onion chopped
  4. 2 Tomatoes medium chopped
  5. 1 tsp Ginger-garlic paste
  6. 2 Green chillies chopped
  7. 1/4 tsp Cinnamon powder
  8. 2 Bay leaves
  9. 1 big black cardamom
  10. 2 pinch Asafoetida
  11. 1 tsp ghee
  12. 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  13. 1 tsp Garam masala
  14. 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  15. 1 tsp Coriander powder
  16. 1 tsp dry Amchur powder
  17. 1 tbsp Chopped Coriander leaves for garnish
  18. 1 tsp Salt

Instructions

  1. Wash and clean the Bengal gram dal and keep it soaked for 20 minutes.
  2. Put chana dal in the cooker with two glasses of water, 1/2tsp turmeric powder and salt.
  3. Cover the lid and put the whistle.
  4. The Chana dal will be semi cooked after one whistle.
  5. Let the steam escape by itself.
  6. Open the lid of the cooker and add chopped bottle gourd and black cardamom into it.
  7. Again cook it on high flame in for 2 whistles.
  8. Switch off the flame and again let the steam escape by itself.
  9. For the Tadka:
  10. Take a big deep pan and heat ghee in it. After ghee gets heated, add cumin, bay leaves and asafoetida.
  11. Saute it for a minute and add ginger garlic paste and stir it for a couple of minutes on medium flame.
  12. Add chopped onion and green chillies and sauté for 2 minutes.
  13. Add the chopped tomatoes into the mixture and saute it for another two minutes.
  14. Now add coriander powder, cinnamon powder, amchur powder and garam masala.
  15. Saute and now pour all the Lauki dal in the pan and cover with a lid.
  16. Again cook this tadka lauki chana dal for 2 minutes on medium flame.
  17. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  18. Enjoy it hot with rice or chapati.
