Ingredients to make Mutton Khichra

  • Mutton 1 kg
  • Onion 5 big chopped
  • Tomato 4 big chopped
  • Rice 4 cups
  • Rajma 1 cup
  • Green peas 1 cup
  • Green moong dal 1 cup
  • Black eyed peas 1 cup
  • Roasted peanuts 1 cup
  • Kabuli channa 1 cup
  • Kidney beans 1 cup
  • Green chili 5 nos
  • Curd 1 cup
  • Coconut milk 3 cups
  • Turmeric powder 2tbsp
  • Red chilli powder as per taste
  • Mint leaves few
  • Coriander leaves few
  • Ginger garlic paste 3 big tbsp
  • Cloves 4
  • Cardamom 4
  • Cinnamon 2 small
  • Bay leaves 1
  • Salt as required
  • Oil as required

How to make Mutton Khichra

  1. Roasted all the lentils except peanuts and soak overnight in enough water.
  2. Next day pressure cook all the soaked ingredients for 10 to 12 whistles
  3. In a big vessel add oil.onceadd oil is hot add cinnamon, cardamom and cloves.then add chopped onions and green chillis cook till it becomes soft and transparent.
  4. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for few seconds and then add cleanly washed mutton.cook till the water gets observed.
  5. Then add tomatoes, coriander leaves, mint leaves and saute till tomatoes become soft.
  6. Then add turmeric powder, chili powder, and curd.cook for few second till oil appears on sides
  7. Add coconut milk and water.
  8. For 1 cup rice add 6 cup water
  9. After adding water add salt and rice and cook till the rice is cooked well.
  10. Then add pressure cooked lentils and cook for 20 to 25 minutes.keep stirring.
  11. Once cooked garnish with fried onions on top and lemon wedges and freshly chopped coriander leaves.
My Tip: Keep stirring after adding rice.
