This classic british dish is something that can be cooked easily and tastes simply amazing.

Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients to make Shepherd's Pie

  • 500 grams minced lamb
  • 1 large-sized onion finely chopped
  • 2 medium-sized carrots finely chopped
  • 800 grams potatoes cut into squares
  • 2 cups of beef stock
  • 2 tablespoon tomato purée
  • 45 ml milk
  • 6 tablespoon butter
  • A splash of Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • salt to taste

How to make Shepherd's Pie

  1. Heat the oil in a pan, put in the onion and carrots. Saute and cook for a few minutes.
  2. Once they are soft, put in the meat and cook on a medium flame till it turns brown in colour. Next, pour in the tomato purée and Worcestershire sauce and stir well.
  3. Then pour in the stock and salt to taste, let this simmer and cook for 35-40 minutes, while continuously stirring in between.
  4. Also preheat the oven to 180 degree celsius.
  5. Boil the potatoes for 10-15 minutes in salted water. Once they are soft, mash the potatoes well along with butter, milk and salt to taste.
  6. Take an ovenproof dish, put in the minced meat and top it with the mashed potato mixture.
  7. Bake this pie for 20-25 minutes till the top part changes colour and the meat starts to bubble around the edges.
  8. Once cooked, leave aside to cool for 5-10 minutes.
  9. Serve warm alongside bread for best taste.
