Ingredients to make Vella Aval/Sweetened Red Rice Flakes

  • 1cup Red rice flakes
  • 1/2cup Jaggery
  • 1/2tsp Cardamom powder
  • 1/4cup Grated coconut

How to make Vella Aval/Sweetened Red Rice Flakes

  1. Add quarter cup of water to the jaggery and make the syrup, strain the syrup with a strainer. Meanwhile soak the thick red rice flakes for 5minutes in water, and strain it.
  2. Now take the jaggery syrup and soaked red rice flakes in a pan, and cook until the rice flakes absorbs completely the syrup.
  3. Add the cardamom powder and grated jaggery to the aval. Serve warm or at room temperature.
