A tasty snack/side dish for diabetics !!

Kalara Chop (Karela Tikki)

Ingredients to make Kalara Chop (Karela Tikki)

  • 2 medium sized Bitter gourd
  • 1 large potato
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1-2 green Chilis
  • 1 tsp mustard Oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp chopped coriander leaves
  • oil for shallow frying
  • 3 tbsp cornflour for dusting
  • salt to taste
  • lemon juice (optional)

How to make Kalara Chop (Karela Tikki)

  1. Thoroughly wash and add bitter gourd and potatoes to pressure cooker along with 1 cup of water. Cook for 2-3 whistles. Once the pressure settles down drain the excess water.
  2. Slit and remove seeds from bitter gourd. Peel the skin of potatoes and add to a mixing bowl along with bitter gourd.
  3. Add chopped onions and green chili along with 1 tbsp. cornflour, ½ tbsp. mustard oil, salt and coriander leaves. Combine well.
  4. Shape them into tikki’s. Meanwhile add2 tbsp. of oil to tawa and place the tikki’s in it. Shallow fry until they start to brown on both the sides.
  5. Sprinkle lemon juice and serve with hot rice.

My Tip:

Substitute potato with sweet potato or Taro if desired.
