Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 3 cups all purpose flour
  2. 7 grams of yeast
  3. 1 and 1/2 teaspoon salt
  4. 1/2 Cup warm water
  5. 1 tsp sugar
  6. 250 ml lukewarm water

Instructions

  1. Pour the 1/2 cup of warm water in a small bowl and dissolve the yeast in it. The add in sugar and stir well. Keep this aside for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Take a large bowl, put in the salt and flour. Make a small hole in the middle and pour in the yeast mixture water. Pour in the lukewarm water and stir with a large spoon.
  3. Place this dough on a floured surface and knead it well for 10-15 minutes.Note that the dough should be smooth and elastic to touch. Take a greased bowl and place the dough upside down in it.
  4. Keep the dough aside for 3 hours, or till it doubles in size. After this time, roll the dough in a rope shape and make 10-12 small pieces. Place these balls on a floured surface, cover them and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 200 degree celsius. Note also to preheat the baking sheet.
  6. Next, roll each dough balls into circles with the help of a rolling pin. The pita breads should be 5-6 inches across and 1/4 inch thick each.
  7. Bake each bread for 4 minutes until they puff up. Then turn it over and bake for another 2 minutes. Remove the pita once cooked, and follow this process for the other pitas as well.
  8. Gently push down the puff with a spatula. (You can also place these breads in storage bags to be consumed later.)
  9. Serve warm with your choice of veg or non-veg curry dish.
