About Namkeen Dalia (Savoury Cracked wheat) Recipe

A healthy and substantial meal in itself which is high fiber and heart healthy. Feel free to add your choice of veggies like peas, cauliflower etc.

Namkeen Dalia (Savoury Cracked wheat)

Ingredients to make Namkeen Dalia (Savoury Cracked wheat)

  • Dalia(Cracked wheat)- 1/2 cup
  • Mung dal- 1/4 cup
  • Red split Masoor dal- 1/4 cup
  • carrot- 1/4 cup, chopped
  • French beans- 1/4 cup, chopped
  • onion- 1 medium, chopped
  • tomato- 1 medium, chopped
  • turmeric- 1/4 tsp
  • Green chilli- 1 chopped
  • cumin seeds- 1/4 tsp
  • asafoetida- a pinch
  • salt to taste
  • lemon wedges- 2
  • Grated ginger- 1/4 tsp
  • oil- 1 tbsp
  • coriander for garnishing

How to make Namkeen Dalia (Savoury Cracked wheat)

  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker.
  2. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida and ginger and saute for a few seconds.
  3. Add the chopped onion, tomato, green chilli, carrot and french beans and fry for a minute.
  4. Pick, wash and drain the dals and add to the cooker.
  5. Dry roast over low heat.
  6. Add the dalia, along with the turmeric and salt. Roast well for another 2 minutes.
  7. Add about 2 cups water and close the lid of the pressure cooker.
  8. After first whistle, lower heat and let cook for another 2 whistles. Turn off and let rest for 10 minutes.
  9. Serve with a sprig of coriander and some lemon wedges.
