  • 2.5 cups of water to cook rice
  • 1/4 cup peanuts
  • 3/4th cup of Toor dal
  • 1/2 tbsp of turmeric Powder
  • 2-3 medium sized carrots, cubed
  • 2 potatoes cubed
  • 1/4 kg beans chopped
  • 1/4 cup of peas
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 small ball of Tamarind, soaked in 3/4 cup of water
  • 3-4 tbsp of Bisi Bele Bath Masala mixed in 1 cup of water
  • salt to taste
  • ghee for seasoning
  • 1/2 tbsp mustard
  • 2 red chillies
  • 1/4 tbsp of Heeng
  • 8-10 cashews
  • 1 sprig of curry leaves
  • 5-6 tbsp of oil

How to make Bisi Bele Bath aka B(cube)

  1. In a pressure cooker, add rice and water and cook for 3-4 whistles.
  2. In another pressure cokker, add toor dal, peanuts, chopped vegetables (except onion and tomato), peas, peanuts, turmeric, bit of salt and 3 cups of water and cook for 3-4 whistles.
  3. In a pan, mix tamarind water and Bisi Bele Bath Masala mixed in 1 cup of water and boil them thoroughly.
  4. Once the cookers cool down, now take a big utensil to make Bisi Bele Bath.
  5. Heat Oil in the big utensil. To which, add chopped onions, and fry well. Add tomatoes and fry well. Once the Tomatoes are fried, add 1tbsp of turmeric and fry well. to this add boiled Bisi Bele Bath masala mix and cook well.
  6. Once the masala is cooked, add boiled toor dal and vegetables and stir well.
  7. Add rice and salt and mix well.
  8. BBB should be as watery as possible while cooking, so add additional water, if required. Check for salt, spice and sourness. Add, if anything is needed.
  9. Cook for 8-10 mins on low flame and stir occassionally.
  10. Once BBB is cooked well, turn off the heat.
  11. Heat ghee in kadai, to that add mustard. once it splatters, add cashews, heeng, curry leaves and Red chillies. Add the tadka on top of BBB and mix well.
  12. Serve hot (as Bisi= Hot), with khara boondi/ Aloo Chips and Curd Raita.

My Tip:

BBB should be as watery as possible while cooking. Once it cools down, it will turn to semi-solid state. BBB masala powder can brought from shops, but we prepare it at home, whose recipe will be shared shortly.
