Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 cup soaked bajra
  2. ½ cup moth
  3. ½ cup rice
  4. 1 cup pure ghee
  5. 1 tbsp salt
  6. 10 cup water
  7. ¼ tsp asafoetida powder
  8. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  9. ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  10. ½ tsp red chilli powder
  11. 1 chopped onion
  12. 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  13. 1 chopped tomato

Instructions

  1. Take bajra clean, wash and soak in water for 4 - 5 hours.
  2. After 4 - 5 hours, remove excess water. Keep the bajra in a sieve for 15 minutes for extra water drains out.
  3. Put the soaked bajra in a jar. Run it on slow speed.
  4. Grind the bajra 3 times for ½ minutes each. Bajra is churned, take it out in a plate.
  5. In a plate bajra, moth, rice.
  6. Heat a cooker for making khichda.
  7. Add 10 cup water in cooker and boil it.
  8. Add bajra, moth, rice in it.
  9. Add 1 tbsp salt.
  10. Close the lid of the cooker and cook until 1 whistle.
  11. After a whistle, reduce flame to minimum.
  12. Cook the khichda on low flame for 20 minutes.
  13. After 20 minutes, turn off flame.
  14. Keep the khichda in cooker till pressure escapes from it.
  15. Pressure is released from cooker. Open the lid of the cooker.
  16. Keep it for a night.
  17. Next day for tadka - heat a pan.
  18. Add ghee, asafoetida, cumin seeds, add chopped onion and ginger garlic paste.
  19. Let it roast.
  20. Add chopped tomato and roast it.
  21. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and slightly mix it.
  22. Now add khichda in tadka and mix well.
  23. Serve hot khichda.
