Ingredients to make Khatti Dal

  • Dal (tuwar ki dal)-3 fistfuls
  • Hing/Asafoetida- 1/2 tsp
  • Tamarind pulp- 1 bowl
  • Cumin seeds-1 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Ginger-garlic paste-1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder-1 tbsp
  • Oil for seasoning-3 tbsp
  • Water-1 glass
  • Tomatoes- 2 sliced
  • Onion- 1 sliced
  • Boiled egg-1

How to make Khatti Dal

  1. Take a cooker, add the washed tuwar ki dal, add onion, tomatoes, ginger-garlic paste, red chilli powder, 1 tsp of oil and water around half glass or more according to the thickness of dal. Close the lid of the cooker and cook it till 4 whistles blow. Once the dal is done season it well.
  2. To season, take a vessel and heat oil in it. Add in the cumin seeds and hing, once the seeds starts spluttering add a few leaves of curry leaves.
  3. Pour in the dal mixture then add the tamarind pulp according to the sourness as per your taste.
  4. Bring it to boil, then add the coriander leaves add serve it with the boiled egg. Your khatti dal is ready!
