Ingredients to make Nuvvulu Podi - sesame seed powder

  • Sesame seeds (nuvvulu) - 1 glass
  • Jeera - 1 sp
  • Chilly powder - 4 sp or to taste
  • Salt

How to make Nuvvulu Podi - sesame seed powder

  1. In a kadai or heavy bottomed vessel, heat the sesame seeds and jeera over low flame.
  2. Sprinkle some water (5-6 sp) and allow the sesame seeds to turn moist. Keep stirring. After a while, the seeds start to crackle, puff up and increase in size. Turn off the flame.
  3. Allow it to cool a bit.
  4. Pulse in a mixer and grind very coarsely. Over blending will make it powdery and smooth.
  5. Add required amount of chilly powder and salt.
  6. Store in an air tight container.

My Tip:

Let it have the coarse texture. Over blending will cause oil to ooze and make it moist.
