Whole Wheat Focaccia

Ingredients to make Whole Wheat Focaccia

  • 1.5 cup Whole wheat flour (extra for dusting)
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Warm water
  • 1 tomato sliced in crescents (see image 2)
  • 1/2 onion sliced in crescents (see image2)
  • 2-3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2.5 tsp Active dry yeast
  • 2 tsp Rosemary
  • 1.5 tsp red chilly flakes
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • A few tsp cold water

How to make Whole Wheat Focaccia

  1. Grease a baking tray and pre heat your oven at 170C. Add yeast and sugar to warm water and cover it. Set this aside for 10-15 min to froth.
  2. In a bowl combine whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour along with salt and red chilli flakes. Make a well in the centre and pour in yeast mix. Blend well, adding tbsp. of cold water at a time to form dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until dough turns smooth and elastic. Add oil and knead one more time, transfer it to a clean bowl and cover it with cling film. Leave for 2 hours.
  4. Now punch the dough and place it in a tray. Spread it well to avoid uneven rise of bread. Poke the dough with your finger, drizzle olive oil and gently press onions and tomatoes on it. Leave this to for 30 minutes.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or till the bread springs back upon touching.
  6. Remove from oven and leave this to cool down for 10 minutes. Take out from tray and cut according your choice.
