About Delicious Discs Recipe

Traditional south indian Idlis presented in a crunchy way. Have grownup eating this for Breakfast and snack prepared by my mother.Do try this simple amazing recipe if you are bored of eating Idlis daily.Kids will love it too.

Ingredients to make Delicious Discs

  • Urad dal/ Split black gram -1 Glass( 200ml)
  • Idli Rawa- 4 Glass( 4 times the quantity of urad dal)
  • rock salt- 1 Tbsp
  • water -As required for grinding dal
  • Oil/ghee - 2 tspn

How to make Delicious Discs

  1. Soak the Urad dal overnight or for 8 hours.
  2. 2. Grind the dal to a fine paste after 8 hrs of soaking. It should grinded to the consistency of a thick pourable liquid form.
  3. Add the Idli rawa glass by glass and mix it well in the above prepared dough. Add the rock salt on the top and dont mix it. Let it ferment for 8 to 10 hours.
  4. In a cooker or idli cooker steam the idlis in a steel glass or small steel bowls (preferably which dont have any designs on it).
  5. Let it steam for 20 mins then remove it from cooker and let it cool completely.
  6. Cut the idlis in disc shapes and keep aside.
  7. Take a non stick tava and lightly grease it with oil or ghee of your choice.
  8. Once its a little hot keep the idli discs on it and saute it till golden brown on outside and looks crispy.
  9. Crispy sauteed Idli discs are ready to be served with Tomato ketchup , pickle or powdered chutney. In the pic I have served the discs with gram dal chutney that was available on day I prepared it as Ketchup was not availaible.

My Tip:

Dough ferments the best if ground in the morning and let it sit out till evening in any season.
