Ingredients to make Poha

  • Poha or Flatttened rice- 2 cups
  • onions- 2 chopped
  • green chillies- 2 chopped
  • oil- 2 tablespoons
  • peanut- 4 tablespoons
  • mustard seeds- 1/2 teaspoon
  • ginger-1/2 teaspoon (minced)
  • curry leaves- 5
  • turmeric Powder -1/2 teaspoon
  • salt to taste
  • coriander Powder- 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chopped coriander Leaves - 1/4 cup
  • lemon juice- 1 teaspoon

How to make Poha

  1. Put the poha in a big strainer and rinse it 2-3 times under running water. The poha should not be mashed.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add the peanuts and fry until its light brown and crunchy. Remove the peanuts from the pan and keep aside.
  3. Add the minced ginger into the remaining oil, then add the mustard seeds, when they splutter add curry leaves. Saute for a minute then add the chopped onions and green chillies, let it fry for some time.
  4. Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt. Mix and saute for 2 minutes. Add the fried peanuts and cook till the poha is heated through. Lastly pour in the lemon juice and mix.
  5. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve it hot.

My Tip:

I do not prefer sweetness in my poha, but if you like you can add a little bit of sugar in the poha.
