About Falafel Recipe

A crispy fried snack from the Middle East, rich in protein and can be served in various combinations.

Ingredients to make Falafel

  • chickpea - 2 cups
  • Fresh coriander - 1 small bunch
  • garlic - 7-8 cloves
  • onion - 1 large
  • cumin seeds - 2tsp
  • salt to taste
  • oil for frying
  • Water for soaking chickpeas

How to make Falafel

  1. Wash, clean and soak the chickpeas overnight or for about 12 hours
  2. Drain the water and make a coarse paste of the chickpeas with onion, garlic, coriander leaves and cumin seeds.
  3. Add salt and mix. The mixture should not be very runny.
  4. Roll the mixture into balls about the size of golf balls.
  5. Heat oil and fry the balls on low-medium heat.
  6. Serve hot with hummus, tahini sauce or mint flavoured yoghurt.

My Tip:

If the mixture gets too watery add 1-2 tbsp of gram flour to bind. Fry on low to medium heat otherwise the outer portion will cook but not the center portion.
