About Samosa Hamantashen Recipe

Hamantashen is a baked jewish cookie with a jam filled centre. Its shape resembles Haman's hat who failed in destroying the Jews. This is a savoury version of Hamantashen and a healthy baked version with our all time favourite samosas

Samosa Hamantashen

Ingredients to make Samosa Hamantashen

  • Puff pastry dough
  • Little water
  • 1/4 cup black sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup white sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup nigella seeds
  • 1 egg yolk for egg wash
  • For samosa filling
  • 1tbsp ghee
  • 1tbsp grated ginger
  • 2tsp chopped green chillies
  • 8-10 curry leaves
  • 2-3 cloves
  • salt
  • 1/4tsp turmeric powder
  • 1tsp cumin powder
  • 1 cup boiled mashed potatoes

How to make Samosa Hamantashen

  1. IN A PAN PUT GHEE AND ADD IN GRATED GINGER AND GREEN CHILLIES
  2. CRUSH THE CLOVES IN AND ADD CURRY LEAVES AND PEAS. SAUTE FOR A MINUTE
  3. ADD SALT, ALL DRY SPICED AND MASHED POTATOES
  4. MIX WELL. SWITCH OFF THE FLAME AND KEEP ASIDE
  5. DUST SOME FLOUR ON A CLEAN SURFACE
  6. ROLL THE PUFF PASTRY DOUGH KEEPING 1/2 INCH THICKNESS
  7. USE A COOKIE CUTTER TO CUT ROUNDELS
  8. PLACE THE ROUNDELS IN A PLATE AND BRUSH THEM WITH EGG WASH.
  9. IN A PLATE MIX WHITE SESAME SEEDS, BLACK SESAME SEEDS AND NIGELLA SEEDS. NOW TAKE EACH ROUNDEL AND PAT IT LIGHTLY ON THE SEEDS KEEPING EGG WASHED SIDE DOWN AND COVER IT WITH MIXED SEEDS
  10. ONCE DONE REFRIGERATE THE ROUNDELS FOR 1 HOUR
  11. TAKE THE CHILLED ROUNDEL AND KEEP THE SEEDED SIDE DOWN. APPLY LITTLE WATER AND PINCH TO FORM A V SHAPE AT ONE SIDE AS SHOWN IN THE VIDEO
  12. USING LITTLE WATER AGAIN MAKE A PERFECT HAT SHAPE FROM THE ROUNDEL
  13. STUFF THE HAT WITH SAMOSA MASALA . REPEAT THE PROCEDURE WITH REST OF THE ROUNDELS
  14. BAKE THEM IN A PRE HEATED OVEN AT 180℃ FOR 20 MINUTES OR TILL GOLDEN
