Ingredients to make Dal Fry Recipe

  • Toor Dal 1/4 cup
  • Moong Dal 1/4 cup
  • Chana dal 2 tbsp
  • Green Chillies (Optional) 2 Slit lengthwise
  • Onions 1 finely chopped
  • Tomato 1 finely chopped
  • Ginger Garlic Paste 1 tsp
  • Dhania Powder 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli Powder 1 tsp
  • Kasuri Methi (Dried Fenugreek Leaves) 1/4 cup
  • Finely Chopped Coriander 1/4 cup
  • Lemon juice 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil/Ghee 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Red chillies 2
  • Asafoetida a pinch

How to make Dal Fry Recipe

  1. Combine all the lentils and wash them well, pour sufficient quantity of water and pressure cook along with green chillies for 2-3 whistles until they are soft.
  2. When the pressure settles, open the lid, mash the lentils and keep aside.
  3. In a vessel heat oil/ghee and add in mustard and cumin seeds followed by red chillies and asafoetida.
  4. Add chopped onions and fry until they are half done.
  5. Now add in Ginger Garlic paste and fry until the raw smell goes away.
  6. Add chopped tomatoes and add in until they are soft.
  7. Now add dhania powder, garam masala powder, chilli powder, salt and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Add in the mashed dal along with water to attain the required consistency.
  9. When the dal comes to a boil, add kasuri methi and chopped coriander.
  10. Turn off the stove and add in lemon juice and mix well.
  11. Serve this delicious dal fry with jeera rice.
