Ingredients to make Arisi paruppu sadham

  • Rice -250 gm
  • Thoor dhal-150 gm
  • Mustard-1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Few curry leaves
  • Onion shallots- 1 tbsp
  • Green chillies slit-3
  • Tomatoes - 2
  • turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Sambar powder - 1 and 1/2 tsp
  • Hing - 1 pinch
  • Gingelly oil - 1 and 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

How to make Arisi paruppu sadham

  1. Soak the rice and dhal together for 30 mins.
  2. In a pressure cooker add the gingelly oil followed by mustard and cumin.
  3. Now add onion shallots and curry leaves,saute till translucent. Next add tomatoes and saute till it gets mushy.
  4. Add hing and all the dry powders. Saute well. Now add the rice and dhal, mix it well.
  5. Add 3 to 4 cups of water. Pressure cook it for 3 whistles. Then wait for the release of the steam.
  6. Serve it with curd and vegetable curry.

My Tip:

A little bit of castor oil makes the rice more tastier.
