Malabar Prawn Curry

Ingredients to make Malabar Prawn Curry

  • ghee - 2 tsp
  • curry leaves - 10
  • mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • onion finely chopped - 1
  • ginger paste - 1 tsp
  • Chilie powder - 1 tsp
  • coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • tomatoes - 150 gms
  • Vegetable or chicken stock - 100 ml
  • coconut milk - 250 ml
  • tamarind paste - 1/4 tsp
  • Prawns - 4 to 5

How to make Malabar Prawn Curry

  1. Add curry leaves, fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds and ginger paste and saute for 30 seconds.
  2. Add the chopped onions and continue to fry on medium heat until they turn golden. (5 minutes)
  3. Add chili, turmeric and coriander. Fry for 2 minutes.
  4. Add tomato puree and tamarind paste. Fry for again for 2 minutes.
  5. Add in the stock and simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes till the desired consistency is reached.
  6. Add in the raw prawns and keep cooking for another 10 minutes.
  7. Reduce heat to low and add the coconut milk.
  8. Add the remaining curry leaves and mustard seeds. Just before switching off the stove.
